Discover Meopham Windmill
Please note, there is no parking on site and no disabled access for the tour but there is a showcase video presentation. Please wear flat shoes and appropriate clothing for an old mill. Also, please follow safety signs and children must be well supervised at all times by accompanying adults.
“Thoroughly enjoyed our trip up the windmill yesterday, with an excellent tour. These volunteers are absolutely amazing in the time, effort and knowledge that they put into this. We are blessed to have this wonderful history on our doorstep.”
“Today was so lovely. Thank you for letting our pupils tour right to the top of the windmill – good to see history in action. The tour guides Dave and Caroline, made it very real and relatable – The boys had a brilliant time. Thank you so much.”
“I came the other day and it was a very interesting tour. It’s a steep climb but my 80 year old aunt managed the step ladders fairly easily. Well worth a visit. Xxx”
We’ve been in twice now. Blown away by the kindness of the guides and so lovely to see inside after living in Meopham most of my life. The kids loved the rat hunt and we are now proud owners of one that they’ve called Rasberry. Can’t recommend this experience enough.
“I’ve brought the whole family and the weather is perfect. The Tour Guides are very kind, 3 ladies and Paul. Alison came to talk to me and she is very nice. A lot of people here!”
Restoration of Grade II* Listed Building
Meopham Windmill was built circa 1820 and is one of only a small handful of six-sided hexagonal smock mills in the whole of the UK.
The windmill’s black smock tower stands on a red brick base of two storeys and stands preserved with all its milling machinery including three pairs of millstones.
It is Grade II* listing building, which is a rare award because Meopham Windmill is particularly important because of it’s exceptional architectural and historical interest.
Kent County Council (KCC) funded Meopham Windmill’s restoration in order to secure our heritage for future generations.
All your donations go directly towards maintaining this rare windmill. Every person involved in this work is an enthusiastic volunteer because we have no paid staff.
Although the initial restoration was funded by KCC, the running and daily upkeep of the mill is achieved by your kind contributions and we greatly appreciate your valuable support.
Thank you.
